Sherm Kavanaugh, 76, founded Kavanaugh s Resort and Restaurant on Sylvan Lake in 1969 with wife Mae. Their 175-seat restaurant became known across Minnesota and beyond for its gourmet food. 30 years ago (1991) Two new supermarkets will open within nine days of each other in Baxter this month. Super One Foods, which already operates a store in east Brainerd, will unveil a 65,000-square-foot store at 1550 Fairview Road. County Market, which also has a store in east Brainerd, will open a 42,000-square-foot store on Hwy 371 north.

Plut, the man known everywhere as the “Mad Hugger,” had been missing for seven days while doctors placed a stent in his heart to repair an artery that was 90 percent blocked. Third St. the patient calmed down prior to officers arrival. Report at 1:47 a.m. Monday of a domestic assault on the 3300 block of Oak Street. Police are preparing criminal charges for felony domestic assault charges to forward to the city’s prosecution office.
