A young Navy officer from Chhattisgarh, who was on leave after being promoted, was among those killed in the boulder barrage incident in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, on Sunday. Lt Commander Amogh Bapat, 27, was from Darri in Korba. Social media was flooded with tributes and condolences to the officer on Monday when news of his death broke.
Another Chhattisgarh native, Satish Katakwar, 30, from Janjgir-Champa also died in the incident. Their mortal remains will be brought home on Tuesday for last rites. “District officials will receive them at Raipur airport,” said Korba collector Ranu Sahu. Bapat was promoted from Lieutenant a couple of weeks ago and was posted to the Andamans. He was on leave for ten days before joining his new assignment.
