After being set aside for a month to gather additional information, North Bay council has awarded a contract to R.V. Anderson Associates Ltd. for the redesign of Main Street.
Council approved the $340,607 contract, plus HST, Tuesday evening.

The project is based on the city’s Downtown Waterfront Master Plan and is aimed at addressing downtown infrastructure, including interlocking brick roadway and sidewalks, curbs and gutters, retaining walls, stairs, railings, benches and lighting, that has reached the end of its life.

North Bay council has deferred the award of a contract for the redesign of downtown Main Street.
The work is for a design of the reconstruction of Main Street from Cassells to Sherbrooke streets and Ferguson Street from Main to Oak streets.

Coun. Mark King, who didn’t support the contract, questioned why the city sought an outside consultant.
“I think we have qualified people employed inside the city,” he said.
“Why we’re going to these outside consultants constantly is beyond me, because I think we can put something together that would make a ton of sense and would actually provide a better vehicle for those people who are in the downtown core to actually deal with the situation.”
