Donald Trump and some of his supporters are known for the Big Lie - that the presidential election was stolen. Those of us who agree Trump lost the election also tend to agree that elections officials are doing their best at the local level. Widespread voter fraud is a myth.
But a “vote from the grave,” as happened last fall in Summit County, is unacceptable. And a board of elections investigation revealing that 700 deceased Summit County voters were still registered to vote is alarming.
We agree with Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s move to reject the reappointment of Bryan Williams to the Summit board and place the board under administrative oversight.
A bill approved unanimously by the Senate on Wednesday would change that, correcting a wrong.
Sponsored by Dayton-area State Sen. Steve Huffman, R-Tipp City, and Nathan Manning, R-North Ridgeville, the bill is designed to help victims of homicide, sexual assault, and other crimes. It next goes to the House. Those who have experienced severe trauma from violent crimes, such as those impacted by Dayton s Oregon District shooting in 2019, deserve our help and support as they grapple with those unimaginable events, Huffman said in a statement sent after the Senate vote. Their pain still weighs heavily on my heart, and it is my hope that this legislation will aid them in their recovery.”

It only took a minute for Chuck McMullens’ pain to go from annoying to catastrophic.
The Newark resident was sitting July 6 on his front porch, when he felt a pain in his lower abdomen, “like maybe I had to use the restroom,” he said.
When he stood up to go inside, though, he collapsed. He had lost feeling in his legs and the pain intensified.
“It felt like an octopus was grabbing and squeezing my stomach,” he said.
On the verge of passing out, McMullens managed to dial 911. He could hear the squad coming up his driveway as he drifted in and out of consciousness.
