Lake Okeechobee discharges are being reduced to the Caloosahatchee River
Rep. Mast wants top Corps leadership to visit Lake O, Treasure Coast
A small volume of water is moving east through the floodgates at the Port Mayaca Lock & Dam in Martin County from Lake Okeechobee into the C-44 canal, so farming operations along the 23-mile long canal can draw water for irrigation.
Meanwhile, Col. Andrew Kelly, commander of the Jacksonville District of the Army Corps of Engineers, announced Friday the agency will reduce discharges to the Caloosahatchee River by 500 cubic feet per second and will adjust discharges to a pulse-style release schedule.
Indian River State College students receive diplomas May 4, 2021 at 6:01 PM EDT - Updated May 4 at 6:01 PM
Congratulations to the newest graduates of Indian River State College!
For the past two days, the college has held drive-in ceremonies where students had the opportunity to walk across the stage to get their diplomas.
This is the ninth consecutive year that the IRSC s graduating class surpassed 3,000. It means a lot to me. I was really nervous when they said last year we might not be able to walk down, said business graduate Francesca Ross. With everything that went on through this year to just be able to have the opportunity to walk the stage means a lot, said graduate Daniela Prengel.

Terry Butler was beginning his eight-hour shift at the Pahokee Campground & Marina early Wednesday as government officials began gathering to address toxic algae that could be unleashed on the Treasure Coast if Lake Okeechobee discharges resume.
Butler spends his weekdays working at the marina, where he cleans boats, trims hedges and, for the past few weeks, has carefully weaved his way around the docks trying to avoid the putrid scent algae releases at his workplace. It s really hard for me to smell it every day. But I ve got to come to work, the 55-year-old Pahokee city employee said. I don t know about the risks. I m not aware of what it is . but every year, it comes in from somewhere else.
