Lambton is expecting a COVID-19 “vaccine crunch” over the next two weeks, the area’s top public health official says.
“We’re going to see a dip in our vaccine allocations, so we’re running fewer clinics than we normally would,” said medical officer of health Dr. Sudit Ranade.

This week, a shipment was down to around 2,500 or 2,800, he said, noting a shipment of Moderna vaccine that was scheduled to arrive this week had also been delayed to next week. The vaccine shortage, he added, is provincewide.

Fourteen new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Sunday in the Sarnia area by the local health unit.
The region’s active caseload , however, fell nine to 188, Lambton public health reported. Of the community’s 2,931 total cases in the year-long pandemic, 2,693 were considered resolved.

At least 133 have screened positive for a variant of concern, with nearly half of those identified as the U.K. variant that’s more transmissible and potentially more severe, officials have said. Tests were still being conducted on the other cases that screened positive.
