1. Get a legal pronouncement of death.
If your loved one died in a hospital or nursing home, or if she was under hospice care, this will get taken care of. But for an unexpected death at home, call 911 soon after the death. They will transport her to an emergency room where she can be declared dead and moved to a funeral home.
2. Tell friends and family.
This is a good way for friends and family to help. You’ll need to go through your loved one’s email and phone contacts. Send a group text or mass email; you’ll want to call some people individually. Be sure to get help from the parish; ask everyone to let others know. Post about the death on social media.
