WOODSTOCK Selectmen began a discussion Tuesday on when and how to hold the annual town meeting as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread.
Last year’s meeting was postponed from late March to July and held outside the Town Office while voters stayed in their cars and spoke via portable microphones.
With the pandemic more widespread now, and the future uncertain regarding vaccinations, selectmen are considering again delaying the meeting.
“It’s going to be like this for a while,” Chairman Ron Deegan said.
They discussed possibly repeating last year’s method in April or May, though there was concern a delay could impact the ability to get bids and make plans for summer roadwork, including a planned bridge replacement.

On April 30, Sunday River Brewing Company Co-Owner Rick Savage announced on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight his plans to defy Gov. Janet’s Mills state order, which at the time prohibited dine-in restaurant service. Less than a day later it was clear he was staying true to his word.
Rick’s decision to open, drew praise from people countrywide and Mainers from all over the state drove to SRBC to show their support for the businessman. By lunchtime, the line of people waiting to go in was stretched around the side of the restaurant, and by dinnertime, more than 250 people had been served, according to an employee. Despite the large turnout, things began to go downhill for SRBC as the day moved on. Around 4:30 p.m., the state seized SRBC’s health and liquor licenses and by 8 p.m., the restaurant made a Facebook post saying it would be closed until further notice. However, the saga was far from over.

WOODSTOCK Selectmen are considering a request for a recreational marijuana ordinance and whether the town should adopt the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code.
At a meeting this month, resident Chandler Simpkins asked the board to consider a recreational marijuana ordinance that would allow growing and wholesale selling, according to the meeting minutes. He operates a small farm and said he would like to have the opportunity to grow marijuana as a crop to complement his planned maple syrup, firewood/lumber and vegetable sales.
Earlier this year voters adopted a moratorium to allow time to develop an ordinance to guide development of marijuana facilities. A committee is preparing an ordinance for a vote at the March 2021 town meeting.
