The Avocado Show, the vegetarian restaurant chain focused on all things avocado, has opened its latest branch in Madrid.
The chain, founded by entrepreneurs Julien Zaal and Ron Simpson in 2017, serves healthy food based on sustainable avocados sourced exclusively from Nature’s Pride.
Menu highlights include poke bowls; avo fries – slices of avocado covered in panko breadcrumbs – served with truffle mayo; avocado ice cream and cheesecake and the perennial avocado on toast.
“It’s been quite an adventure to open up in these challenging times in different cultures and countries, and we have been through a lot together in the past 10 months to get to where we are today: finally open,” said Zaal, from the Netherlands.

Caring volunteers are continuing their work to make sure no one is forgotten about during lockdown.
Residents in Uppingham have devised a three-pronged structure so that people can receive help from the business, voluntary and statuary sector if needed.
Ron Simpson, director and secretary of Uppingham First, plays a key role helping people in the community.

Delaware Master Gardeners announced gardening workshops designed to educate and inspire.
Rebecca Rendeiro will lead Preparing your Landscape for Spring at 12 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 26. Gardens may be asleep for the winter, but the gardener never really sleeps. This workshop will cover important tasks which can be completed during the quieter months of the year.
Judy Pfister will lead a workshop on growing native plants from seed at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 28. Growing native plants from seed is a great way to populate a garden with native plants without breaking the garden budget. The session will cover native plant pre-germination requirements as well as tips and techniques for both indoor and outdoor seed starting.

The University of Delaware’s New Castle County Cooperative Extension and the Delaware Master Gardeners will host several gardening workshops – online via Zoom – in the coming months.
Noon Jan. 26: “Preparing Your Landscape for Spring with Rebecca Rendeiro.” Gardena may be asleep for the winter, but the gardener never sleeps. This workshop will review important tasks that can be completed during the quiet winter months.
10 a.m. Feb. 6: “Growing Citrus Indoors and on Your Patio with Ron Simpson.” This presentation will discuss growing potted citrus plants, indoors in winter and outdoors in summer. Topics covered will include varieties suited for pot culture, fertilization, pruning, pest control and winter versus summer care. There will also be a short discussion on the origins and genetics of commonly grown citrus.
