I enjoyed the practical challenges offered by engineering and management. Yet it was an engineering management work placement which gave me my first taste of litigation. I was instantly hooked. During a summer work experience scheme with ICI, I was asked to deal with a complex issue relating to trade unions and a prospective dispute that was in the offing. I came at the top of the group. I enjoyed understanding the overlap between legal analysis and the human dynamics of dispute resolution.
I had previously dismissed law as a career. Having seen the domestic conveyancing work my father undertook in his high street practice, I knew that was not for me. However, this experience gave me pause to reconsider whether there was anything I could do to avoid the profession for which both my father and grandfather had trained. Amid a shortfall of rain and lower-than-normal water levels, Oregon and some of its cities took measures Wednesday to curtail excessive water use in the face of droughts in the state.
Gov. Kate Brown issued an executive order Wednesday requiring state agencies to implement water conservation measures, including stopping nonessential water use.
More than 80% of the state is experiencing severe drought conditions or worse, according to the latest survey by the U.S. Drought Monitor, which is based on temperature, precipitation, soil moisture and streamflow measurements.
In Oregon, 19 counties have declared drought emergencies and more are facing drought.

Weatherford PDâs Travis McClure has been in law enforcement for almost nine years. Itâs been long enough for the Marine veteran, now an investigator and SWAT team member with WPD, to make a big impression on his colleagues, supervisors and the community.
That much was evident earlier this week, as he was announced as the Parker County American Legion Post 163âs Police Officer of the Year for 2020.
