Community prays for love, life, liberty

AUBURN — “This is God’s event,” said Erma Casselman, county coordinator of the 30th annual DeKalb County prayer rally Thursday at the Kruse Plaza south of Auburn. “It’s so good to get together in prayer again,” she said. Last year’s event was canceled due to the pandemic. “We’ve had a tough year, but God is on the throne and He loves to hear from His people.” The rally celebrated the theme, “Love, Life and Liberty,” drawing from II Corinthians 3:17 that reads: “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where is the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty.”

Former SAU student state s New Ag Instructor of the Year

Caroline Lester of Westside High School in Jonesboro received the honor from the Arkansas Farm Bureau. Lester earned the top new ag instructor award for her work at Westside, where she has 208 students involved. Eighty students are also members of the school’s FFA program. “Here at Westside we’re really fortunate to have a lot of community support.” Lester said when receiving the award from Arkansas Farm Bureau’s Senior Education Coordinator Matt Jackson. “I appreciate the support my peers have given me,” she said. Lester, originally from Vilonia, graduated from SAU in May 2017 with a bachelor of science in agriculture education. She received a master s degree in agriculture in 2020. While at SAU, she was involved in the Agri Club, Collegiate FFA and Sigma Alpha.
