The Browns drafted Grant Delpit as the first pick on the defensive side of the ball under this new regime. Unfortunately, he suffered a ruptured Achilles Tendon and missed his entire rookie season. They also went out and traded for Ronnie Harrison, who was a really nice addition to the defense.
The Browns could decide to resign Karl Joseph and have him play the third safety role or look for help elsewhere.

CLEVELAND, Ohio Not to put too much value on a single move, but I think there are two players who are clearly the best option at a position of need for the Browns, and I’m not sure the Browns can truly win free agency without getting one of them next week.
At edge rusher, there are multiple options, at least seven real choices that could make sense financially and who would help immediately while starting at defensive end opposite Myles Garrett. At linebacker, the sure-thing impact options are so sparse, I think the best plan for landing a three-down starter at linebacker is with the Browns’ first-round pick at No. 26, and they should plan that way and realize a major linebacker isn’t a must in free agency.

CLEVELAND, Ohio Now that J.J. Watt has signed with the Arizona Cardinals, the Browns will turn their attention to keeping some of their own free agents and acquiring other veterans.
The league year opens March 17, with the early negotiating period for free agents beginning on March 15. As soon as the salary cap is determined, Browns GM Andrew Berry will make offers to some of his own free agents, including receiver Rashard Higgins and cornerbacks Terrance Mitchell and Kevin Johnson.
