United Cajun Navy Suspends Search After Accusations Over Funds

The United Cajun Navy has announced they are suspending their search for the missing Seacor crew members. It has been nearly three weeks since the Seacor Power vessel capsized off the Louisiana coast, and seven of the 19 crew members are still missing. The United Cajun Navy has been one of the main groups leading volunteer search efforts, taking in tens of thousands of dollars in donations, but today the UCN announced their efforts will be coming to an end. The UCN made the announcement via their official Facebook Page. Although the organized and coordinated search efforts have been suspended, the United Cajun Navy will still use ATVs to search Holly Beach and the coast east of Texas.

Sunday update: The Seacor Power search

Posted at 12:49 PM, May 02, 2021 and last updated 2021-05-02 13:50:51-04 As of Sunday afternoon, searchers had not been able to get out because of the weather. Volunteers continue to show up in Cocodrie to help search for the seven men still missing from the capsized Seacor Power, a liftboat with a crew of 19 that went down during unexpectedly bad weather on April 13. Six were rescued, six were recovered deceased, and seven remain missing. Ronnie Adams, who has posted daily updates from Cocodrie, said the weather was just to bad this morning for anyone to go out. He asked for more volunteers with sonar, GPS and boats to come help tomorrow, Monday, May 3.

Search effort dissolves into finger-pointing, accusations

KATC / Associated Press and last updated 2021-05-02 19:55:13-04 UPDATE: We ve spoken with the United Cajun Navy today, and they say they ve got records for all the donations they ve accepted and spent in the Seacor Power rescue effort. The UCN has a platinum status as a 501c 3, which means that all donations and expenditures are documented and audited and provided to the IRS, said spokesman Brian Tracsher. He said that, unfortunately, this situation - accusations that they re not spending donations correctly - seems to happen in every deployment. The bottom line is, we know who is behind it, we go through this on almost every mission, and the good thing is that now we ve been through it enough that we know how to handle it. We know if you take away the platform these people are seeking, they ll eventually choke on their own oxygen and go away. That s what is going to happen here, it s happened every time. Hurricane season is about to start, and the UNC is not going anywhere
