County School Board To Take Applications From Administrators Interested In Serving As Interim Superintendent; Choice Set To Be Made Monday Afternoon Thursday, July 15, 2021
The County School Board, still reeling from the unexpected resignation of Supt. Bryan Johnson just two days earlier, voted Thursday to begin accepting applications from Hamilton County School administrators who want to apply for interim superintendent.
Six were in favor of the motion, while Rhonda Thurman was opposed and Karitsa Mosley Jones abstained.
The interim would not be eligible to be chosen for the permanent superintendent, officials said.
The applications are to be emailed to board administrative assistant Sherrie Ford by Monday at 8 a.m. The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. that day.

In The Twilight Zone At The School Board Sunday, June 13, 2021
I have a friend who used to say, “I have been to two World’s Fairs and a hog calling contest and I have never seen the beat.” That is exactly the feeling I had after last month’s four-hour marathon School Board meeting. I have been attending school board meetings for the last 20 years and I have never seen another one quite like it.
This meeting had it all. For the first time in an open meeting, I heard a cuss word from a school board member, the sheriff disrespected, and parents being chastised for not having “anything else to do” because they were attending a meeting to object to their child wearing a face mask. I was told if I had a problem with what a board member was saying, I could leave and I was told by two board members I was just trying to score “political points” for speaking out against mask mandates for students.

County School Board Votes 5-4 Against Sending K-5 Back To School; But Approves Telling Supt. Johnson To Get Students Back As Quickly And Safely As Possible Thursday, January 21, 2021
The County School Board, after two and a half hours of often heated discussion, voted 5-4 against a plan that would have put students in K-5 back in school four days a week.
However, the board afterwards unanimously supported a resolution initiated by Chairman Joe Wingate that directs Supt. Bryan Johnson to come up with plans that get students back into the classroom as quickly and as safely as possible.
Chairman Wingate said, This allows Dr. Johnson to look at options as the COVID-19 numbers come down.
