GREENVILLE The Darke County Republican Women’s Club (DCRWC) will host a panel discussion regarding Ohio House Bill 248 (H.B. 248) featuring Ohio Reps. Rodney Creech (co-sponsor of the bill), Susan Manchester and Jena Powell Monday, June 14, at 6 p.m., in the Shawnee Nature Center, 4267 State Route 502, Greenville.
Creech is from Preble County and represents District 43. Manchester is from Logan County and represents District 84, which includes the northern part of Darke County. Jena Powell is from Darke County and represents District 80, which includes the southern part of Darke County. All three Representatives are Republicans.
Hopefully, Ohio’s planting season will soon be as busy as its legislative season. There’s a lot of activity down at the capitol these days, with many bills on the move. Here’s a summary of bills that could impact agriculture and rural communities. Note that the summary doesn’t include the budget bill, which is also currently being debated.
Water quality bonds
A joint resolution recently offered in the Senate supports amending Ohio’s Constitution to create permanent funds for clean water improvements. S.J.R. 2, a bipartisan proposal from Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) and Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Hts.) would place a ballot issue before voters in November. The issue proposes amending the Constitution to allow for the issuance of general obligation bonds to fund clean water improvements. Reps. Creech, Koehler introduce legislation for permanent transition to daylight saving time

COLUMBUS, Ohio State Reps. Rodney Creech (R-West Alexandria) and Kyle Koehler (R-Springfield) on Wednesday introduced House Concurrent Resolution 13, legislation that urges Congress to enact The Sunshine Protection Act of 2021, which would make daylight saving time (DST) the permanent standard time.
“This resolution directs Congress to take action on enacting permanent DST nationwide,” Koehler said. “Eliminating the time change twice a year would help avoid unnecessary disruption in Ohioans’ lives.”
The bill sponsors noted the benefits of DST include additional daylight in the evening hours, increased outdoor playtime for the children and youth, expanded economic opportunities, energy savings, improved traffic safety, and crime reduction.
Ohio lawmakers introduce vaccine protection bill

COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio lawmakers have introduced a bill aimed at protecting individuals who decline vaccines from discrimination.
House Bill 248, also titled the Vaccine Choice & Anti-Discrimination Act, was introduced by Representative Jennifer Gross (R-West Chester) on Tuesday, April 6, and is co-sponsored by 15 lawmakers, including Rep. Rodney Creech (R-West Alexandria).
The bill states that if an individual is required to be vaccinated by a person, political subdivision, public official or state agency, said individual can decline a vaccine by submitting a written statement or verbally declaring their intent to refuse the vaccine.
