Fil-Canadian runs for Montreal council seat

Canadian-Filipino Stephanie Valenzuela (via Facebook/Stephanie Valenzuela/Dean Garrett) If elected, Stephanie Valenzuela, a daughter of Filipino immigrants to Canada, will be the first Canadian-Filipino to serve in the City Council of Montreal representing the district of Darlington. Former Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre introduced Valenzuela to Philippine Ambassador to Canada Rodolfo Robles during a virtual conference on July 7, 2021. Valenzuela, who was born and educated in Montreal, informed Ambassador Robles of her involvement in a settlement organization in Montreal assisting Filipinos and other immigrants to settle into their adopted communities. On her Facebook page, Valenzuela announced on July 1, 2021 her intention to run for the city council in the coming municipal election under the Ensemble Montréal ticket of Coderre.

Philippines eyeing to secure excess COVID-19 vaccines from Canada — envoy

By VIRGIL LOPEZ, GMA News Published June 28, 2021 1:49pm The Philippines has expressed its intention to get some of the excess COVID-19 vaccines from Canada as part of the government’s efforts to boost the local supply. At a Palace news conference on Monday, Philippine Ambassador to Canada Rodolfo Robles said Canada is expected to have a surplus of around 100 million doses. “We are being listed among those who are interested to partake of the excess of the 100 million (doses). They expect to have a full vaccination of everybody by the middle of the fourth quarter,” Robles said. “Before the end of the year, we will know how [much] excess Canada will have. I am really watching with an eagle eye on the prospect of getting some excess directly from Canada.”
