A request from the county engineer was tabled during Thursday’s meeting of the Washington County Board of Commissioners.
Roger Wright sent a letter to the board this week asking for a one-time exception for Wesley and Newport townships to receive the 1 percent permissive sales tax in one installment instead of the usual three.
“This would allow the townships to have funds available to supplement the (Ohio Emergency Management Agency/Federal Emergency Management Agency) contribution in order to pay for the slip repairs and allow the township to maintain their limited budget,” the letter states.

Palma. Rather literally, this name means palm leaf, which is a symbol of victory.

The engineering design firm WSP will come to Devola next week to speak with residents about the Devola Sewer Improvement Project.
WSP will be in town to finalize landowner septic tank and proposed grinder pump locations on individual properties, according to the Washington County Commission.
“We wanted to make sure WSP would be available to answer questions for anyone out there,” Commissioner Charlie Schilling said.
He said he likes the fact that WSP will be getting in touch with residents if they have any questions.

A special prosecutor may soon be appointed to handle misdemeanor animal cruelty and neglect cases.
Washington County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kelly McGilton and board members of the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley met with Washington County Commissioners after their regular business meeting Thursday morning.
McGilton said there has been conversations about possibly appointing Jeff Holland of Medina County as the special prosecutor to help push cases forward.
“They are specialized and there’s a lot that goes into them,” she explained. “We always would appreciate someone who is an expert in the field.”

PARKERSBURG The city of Parkersburg’s salt supply was down to about 100 tons Tuesday when its refills couldn’t be delivered, ironically, because of road conditions.
“They got so much ice that their trucks couldn’t even go anywhere,” Parkersburg Public Works Director Everett Shears said.
The city was able to secure 450 tons of salt locally Tuesday and expects to have the original order delivered soon. But Parkersburg and government entities around the Mid-Ohio Valley have used a lot more salt this winter than last.
