It is never too late to discover John Foulds, the composer who did for the ears what Dalí would do for the eyes

I have written before about John Foulds, the barely known genius of a composer who was a near-contemporary of Vaughan Williams and Holst. Foulds has been an obsession of mine since the late Michael Kennedy, for many years The Telegraph’s revered music and opera critic, raved to me about the stunning recording of his piano concerto Dynamic Triptych, by the soloist Howard Shelley and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Vernon Handley – a revelation to him as it became to me.

Busy Bee Restaurant owner Larry Sloter was named Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Historic Harmar Bridge Company on Tuesday in the latest course correction to refurbish the privately-owned historic landmark used and beloved of the public.
“We’ve got the people in place with our current board and our current committees that man I’m excited about what the next six months are going to bring– let alone what the next two years are going to bring,” said Sloter, 41, of Devola. “I wouldn’t be doing this if I was not positive that we can pull it off and I wouldn’t have accepted the chairman position if we weren’t on the path to having all of the previous issues corrected. So I’m confident that everything is going in the right direction.”

It’s been years since Washington County had a white Christmas, but this year may be different.
“Yes, it’s likely it will happen,” said Andy Roche, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston, W.Va.
He said Thursday will see rain showers, perhaps heavy rain at times, but then temperatures will drop quickly by Thursday afternoon.
“Precipitation will start sticking through Thursday night and continue through Christmas,” Roche said. “There will be one or two inches on the ground by 7 a.m., so you’ll at least see white stuff on the ground.”
The NWS notes a “white Christmas” is defined as having an inch or more of snow on the ground on Christmas morning.

Discussion continues as to what to name a new township road accepted during a recent Washington County Commission meeting.
The road was built at the southern end of the Warren Local School campus as a way to access the elementary school. As it was built using funds from Ohio Department of Transportation, it could not be owned by the school district, and it could not become a county road because it dead ends.
After it was accepted as a township road, testimony was heard from proponents from both Barlow Township and the school district.
Warren Local School board member Bob Allen asked the commission to designate it “Big Blue Way.”
