View Comments The Leon County Children s Services Council Tuesday approved a 0.375% property tax rate, which will generate over $7 million for the new organization s work. Residents will pay a new yearly property tax of $37.50 per $100,000 in taxable property value. The money raised will fund the council for the next 16 months, or until Oct. 1, 2022. Councilmember and treasurer Paul Mitchell had proposed three rates  0.05%, 0.25% and the full 0.5%, which would have generated $9.8 million.  Before the meeting, the council was split between 0.25% and 0.5%, but Leon County Schools Superintendent Rocky Hanna proposed a compromise of 0.375%, which brought the rest of the council on board. I was proud I could bring the group together and compromise on a rate that we all think is fair to our taxpayers but also provides seed money that s needed to support programs in the immediate future, Hanna said.
