A New Jerseypolice department is equipping its patrol cars with new Emergency Sensory Tool Kits and training for officers aimed at improving its response to situations involving people with autism or other special needs. Route 17 crash in Rochelle Park leaves Elmwood Park NJ man dead

The Bergen County Prosecutor s Office is asking for the public s help to identify a truck involved in a crash that killed an Elmwood Park man Tuesday night in Rochelle Park.  Mario Andres Uran Gaviria, 41, was riding a motorcycle south on Route 17 at about 8:40 p.m. when he struck the rear left tires of a semi-trailer truck that had slowed down in traffic, prosecutors said. The driver of the truck did not stop after the collision, the Bergen County Prosecutor s Office said.  Gaviria suffered severe head trauma and was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, prosecutors said.

(Caren Lissner/Patch) CRANFORD, NJ Thanks to the watchful eyes of an off-duty Hillside police officer, the Cranford police were able to charge a Roselle Park man Tuesday night after a local BP gas station was robbed, they said. The Cranford Police Department said they responded at 10:54 p.m. Tuesday to a reported robbery at the station located at 475 E. North Ave., they said. They said the gas attendant told them that a white male displayed a handgun and demanded cash from him. The suspect then fled the scene in a white Jeep Cherokee heading east on East North Avenue.

34-year-old Elizabeth man fatally struck by pickup truck in Roselle Park, police say Updated Dec 12, 2020; The identity of the victim was not immediately released. The collision occurred on the 100 block of East Westfield Avenue and Dalton Street in Roselle Park around 5:25 p.m., police said. The 53-year-old driver of the 2012 Dodge Ram pickup truck was driving eastbound on East Westfield Avenue when the crash occurred and remained at the scene afterward, police said. The Elizabeth resident was taken to an area hospital with significant injuries and later died, police said. East Westfield Avenue was closed for approximately three hours while Roselle Park police and the Union County Police Department Traffic Unit investigated the crash.
