The school board is planning a public hearing and vote in early June to approve or reject a Chapter 313 application seeking tax breaks for a solar project.
A final decision concerning a tax abatement proposal between Bastrop County and international renewable energy company RWE Renewables for a planned solar project won’t come until the new year after the Bastrop County Commissioners Court on Monday tabled the proposal.
The decision to table a possible tax abatement for RWE, which is proposing to build a $190 million solar project near Rosanky, until the next Commissioners Court meeting on Jan. 11 was a near formality for the court.
A tax abatement agreement for the county to review still hasn t been finalized with RWE, despite months of negotiations.
Since a final version of the proposed abatement doesn’t exist, Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape said from the start of Monday’s meeting the court didn’t intend to vote on the matter and would be tabling it.

Public government meetings are always fascinating affairs. More people should attend or listen, for much can be learned about new projects that want to come here.
At the Dec. 14 Bastrop County Commissioners Court meeting, much time was devoted to the silly affair of removing and relocating the frivolous second-place monument to failed Confederate supremacy. Of the relocation process, County Judge Paul Pape voiced much worry about placing the monument in someone s backyard without the residents having something to say about it. It was disheartening to hear so much excitement and effort being placed on this issue than with the real-world, life-altering, proposed 35-year project that is the RWE solar farm slated for 2,000 acres of rural Rosanky farmland in the backyards of longtime and native residents.
