Santa Rosa County Commissioners tabled a request Tuesday night that would have allowed law enforcement officials to trespass people if they were on county property after hours and were not conducting official county business.
County Administrator Dan Schebler said the request was made by State Attorney s Office officials who have encountered homeless people on county property at early or late hours who don t have official business being on the property. The county attorney and I were approached by law enforcement that operates out of our facility here 24/7, and they ve experienced both personally, and other staff have brought to their attention, experiences where they ve been approached by individuals who are not here on county business, Schebler told commissioners at Tuesday night s meeting. A group of Santa Rosa County residents want to rename the Navarre Beach Causeway after President Donald Trump.
During the public forum at the Dec. 10 Santa Rosa County Commissioners meeting, resident Sam Mullins asked the board to consider discussing the idea of renaming the bridge and even voting on it at the next meeting in January, which the board decided against.
“I’m not prepared to bring this to an agenda item,” said Chairman Dave Piech. “This is a big decision on a bridge that needs to be replaced in the next eight to 10 years. I’m not closing the door to it … but I personally feel this county has a lot more issues to deal with right now.”
