Ferdinanda Florence and Gwen Manfrin come to Andrea Schwartz Gallery with ‘Threshold’
Andrea Schwartz Gallery is currently presenting a new two-person exhibition, titled “Threshold,” featuring artists Ferdinanda Florence and Gwen Manfrin.
Florence’s work has frequently focused on unfixed, liminal spaces like ambiguous exterior structures. Her new series of paintings departs from that with an emphasis on interior views, specifically doorways, unclaimed spaces and rooms that communicate a sense of loss. Doesn’t that feel like a fitting meditation for art-goers housebound for much of the past year?

Movie theater screens are lighting up across the Bay Area once again, but don’t expect a Hollywood ending just yet. The cinematic atmosphere in the Bay Area is more like a David Lynch film: strange, surreal and disjointed.
On the plus side, major theater chains AMC Theatres and Cinemark have reopened, as Alameda and Solano counties this week joined San Francisco, Santa Clara, Marin, San Mateo and Napa counties in advancing to the second-most-restrictive category of California’s reopening blueprint, from purple (widespread) to red (substantial). Alameda and Sonoma counties remain in the purple tier.

The Oscar nominations are set to be announced March 15, and Fort Mason Flix is ready.
Slam-dunk nominees “Minari,”“Promising Young Woman” and “Wolfwalkers” highlight the San Francisco waterfront drive-in’s late March schedule, offering Bay Area drive-in moviegoers a chance to finally watch newly released films on the big screen.
“Minari” (sold-out screening March 16), Lee Isaac Chung’s drama about a Korean American family trying to start a farm in Arkansas, and “Wolfwalkers” (March 20), a gorgeously animated fable based in Irish folklore, are co-sponsored by the Roxie Theater, the Mission District art house that has been closed for a year.
