Missing Gastonia woman dead, police make homicide arrest

A man already in Gaston County Jail on an assault on a female charge now faces a first-degree murder charge related to a Gastonia missing person case. Gastonia Police charged 40-year-old Keon Latroy Pernell with first-degree murder Monday in the death of Cherie Shavon Ingram. Ingram was reported missing April 8, last seen leaving 124 S. South Street on March 27. On Sunday, her body was located in a wooded area in the 400 block of North Broad Street. On Saturday, Gastonia Police charged Pernell with assault on a female and he was booked into Gaston County Jail on a $50,000 bond. The murder charge was added Monday. He now remains in Gaston County Jail under no bond. Police did not immediately disclose when the assault on a female case took place or if it involved Ingram.

Robinson wraps up challenging first year as J F Webb head coach

OXFORD — In their first season under new head football coach Lamont Robinson, J.F. Webb experienced a plethora of challenges and ultimately settled for a 1-6 record. Robinson said that having to put together a program in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic hindered J.F. Webb from establishing cohesion but he also attributed some of the struggles to the overall youth on his team. “This was a learning experience,” Robinson said. “We had some high expectations but we only had six seniors and ended up playing a lot of sophomores and freshmen. A lot of those kids didn’t have any meaningful varsity experience but they had the opportunity to get that experience this spring.”

Workman, publisher of the Times West Virginian, will retire on April 30. Workman said he will carry with him memories of such world-changing events as the Iran hostage situation, the shooting of President Ronald Reagan and 9/11. I ve enjoyed working for CNHI as well as all of the other newspaper owners I ve worked with, Workman said. I ve also enjoyed working with the staff of the Times West Virginian. This staff has been a delight to work with.
