A man already in Gaston County Jail on an assault on a female charge now faces a first-degree murder charge related to a Gastonia missing person case.
Gastonia Police charged 40-year-old Keon Latroy Pernell with first-degree murder Monday in the death of Cherie Shavon Ingram.
Ingram was reported missing April 8, last seen leaving 124 S. South Street on March 27.
On Sunday, her body was located in a wooded area in the 400 block of North Broad Street.
On Saturday, Gastonia Police charged Pernell with assault on a female and he was booked into Gaston County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
The murder charge was added Monday. He now remains in Gaston County Jail under no bond. Police did not immediately disclose when the assault on a female case took place or if it involved Ingram.
