Americans â at least some of them â are falling for two big lies.
The one lie we know about â the dangerous canard that somehow last yearâs presidential election was fraudulent.
All the Republicans who have enabled some piece of this lie, such as by voting to set aside the actual election results or staging next weekâs ridiculous âelection integrity rallyâ in Lynchburg, have set the country on a path toward a dark and terrible place that will make the events of Jan. 6 look like childâs play.
They will bear the opprobrium of history if we ever get there. Fortunately thereâs still time to turn away from that lie, by calling out and isolating the self-serving Donald Trump and his conspiracy-theory acolytes, something far too Republicans have had the courage to do.

BLACKSBURG â
Ben Corl and Julie Burger didnât plan to raise half their annual consumption of greens and root vegetables when they planted two modest vegetable beds in their yard 11 years ago.
They had no master plan to cover three-fourths of their Draper Road, Blacksburg lot with edibles and flowers, but as their enthusiasm grew, their lawn dwindled.
âWe never intended to have a lot of lawn. We always wanted lots of plants. When we crave a new plant and donât have room, we get rid of more lawn,â Burger said.
Now their home is a showpiece for home gardening, yielding everything from spinach to peanuts to winter wheat, ringed by a swath of colorful flowers that draw pollinating insects.

Editorâs note: This is a copy of the letter that Graf recently sent to Floyd County Circuit Judge Michael Fleenor:
You may recall that when you first took office as Presiding Judge of the 27th Judicial Circuit, Floyd Circuit Court, I wrote the court asking you to consider taking down the Confederate statue in front of the Floyd Courthouse. At that time, I was not licensed in Virginia. I was licensed in Oregon and Tennessee.
Subsequent to my letter to your office, I became a member of the Virginia Bar through reciprocity as the laws in Virginia changed allowing me to do so. My prime motivation in becoming a Virginia lawyer was to take on a lawsuit that would seek to remove the statue in front of the Floyd County Courthouse. I concur with Honorable Judge Charles N. Dorsey that âthe continued presence of the Confederate monument, in its present location . and with its present content, obstructs the proper administration of justice .â See Attached
