It s a well-known industry narrative: huge labels paying big money to acquire music copyrights. It appears Lil Wayne s latest lawsuit fits right into this trope. A new court filing alleges what has been rumored for a while now, that the Young Money head honcho sold all of his masters, as well as Drake and Nicki Minaj s, for $100 million. Shocking? Maybe not. It seems Drizzy already predicted these shady moves back in 2018.
Back in June, Wayne reportedly sold his masters to Universal Music Group (UMG) as part of a deal valued in excess of $100 million. The nine-figure price tag was just confirmed as part of a lawsuit brought on by Wayne’s former manager Ronald Sweeney, Music Business Worldwide reports. The suit claims that the deal was for Young Money’s entire catalog of masters including Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga s.
Lil Wayne is taking Young Money all the way to the bank.
Back in June, the rapper reportedly sold his masters to Universal Music Group as part of a deal valued in excess of $100 million.
The nine-figure price tag was revealed as part of a lawsuit brought on by Wayne’s former manager Ronald Sweeney. Now Music Business Worldwide has shared more details from the suit, which claims that the deal was for Young Money’s entire catalog of masters including Drake and Nicki Minaj.
The suit reads: “Plaintiffs are informed and believe… that, subsequent to [Sweeney’s] termination [as Wayne’s manager], specifically in or about June of 2020, Lil Wayne was able to sell the Young Money Masters to Universal Music Group for in excess of $100 Million.”
According to
The Source, the sale went down back in June for a whopping $100 million dollars.
News of the sale is coming out now because his former manager Ronald Sweeney is suing him for $20 million.
Ronald was hired back in 2005 to help Wayne renegotiate his deal with Birdman and Cash Money.
13 years later the deal was settled but Sweeney says his payments were nowhere near what he believes he is owed.

The 38-year-old rapper has had a tumultuous year, which included pleading guilty to illegal gun possession on Friday (December 11), which he faces up to 10 years in prison for, according to prosecutors. Wayne reportedly entered a plea in Miami federal court,
CNN reported per a release from the U.S. Attorney s Office for the Southern District of Florida.
Last month, the A Milli rapper who was previously convicted of a felony charge in New York in 2009 was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and amunition, which stemmed from a December 2019 incident in which federal agents allegedly found a loaded gold-plated handgun in the rapper s luggage on a private flight.
