Deal in the works for former Peter Paul site

Hershey has a signed purchase and sales agreement for the property. –ANDREAS YILMA NAUGATUCK After more than a decade of sitting vacant, the former Peter Paul site on New Haven Road may soon have new economic life. Naugatuck Economic Development Corp. President Ronald Pugliese said R+L Carriers, a global freight shipping company, has made an offer to buy the 36-acre parcel of land at 889 New Haven Road from The Hershey Company. He said Hershey accepted the offer and the companies are working on a deal.

NEDC, Beacon Falls agreement on hold

By Andreas Yilma, Staff Writer NAUGATUCK A proposed agreement between the Naugatuck Economic Development Corporation and Beacon Falls is on hold. In February, the Beacon Falls Board of Selectmen unanimously approved an agreement with the NEDC to provide economic development services for the town from March 1 through June 30. The NEDC board of directors subsequently formed a subcommittee to review and possibly propose changes to the agency’s bylaws to make sure there were no liability issues. NEDC President Ronald Pugliese said during the NEDC’s March 22 meeting that he spoke with Beacon Falls officials and the agreement is on pause for the time being.

Rosenblatt, a pillar of the Naugatuck community and owner of Rosenblatt’s Department Store on Maple Street, died Feb. 15 of cancer. He was 74. Rosenblatt’s Department Store first opened its doors over a century ago in the Union City section of Naugatuck. A family business through and through, Howie Rosenblatt’s grandfather, Morris Rosenblatt, started the store and passed it on to his son, William Rosenblatt.
