Submitted photo The Hillsboro FFA Chapter recently held its annual banquet where it recognized all of its members for all the hard work they do throughout the year. One award the chapter presents each year is called the Star Awards. Members fill out an application to see if they fit the requirements. The Freshman Star Award is given to a first-year FFA member who has been most active and shown leadership throughout the year, with a promising SAE project.

Proficiency awards are based on a member’s SAE project. The award recognizes individual skills and career-based competencies developed through multiple years of participation in immersion-type SAE projects. Annual FFA Spring Flower Sale begins - Times Gazette

Submitted photo Now through May 12, the Hillsboro FFA Chapter will be selling an assortment of flowers, vegetables, ferns, different types of hanging pots and assortment of planters. The Hillsboro Greenhouse Management Class plants, waters and cares for these plants when getting them ready for the sale. The students are learning the practices of growing healthy plants. They are also learning growing, planting, transplanting, fertilizing, pesticide, marketing and customer service. The class is selling petunias, marigolds, snapdragons, geraniums and more. The greenhouse projects are mainly used for educational purposes, but any profit from the sales goes directly to greenhouse upkeep, purchases for the following year, and FFA activities.
