A giant crane-mounted corkscrew was the center of attention during the recent groundbreaking of Maryknoll’s solar power project, which will install more than 2,000 energy-generating panels on the Ossining campus.
The enormous piece of apparatus that looked like it could bore down to the Earth’s core is being used to drill 14 feet below ground to accommodate the foundations for six canopies on two parking lots at the Ryder Road campus.

Ceres man jailed after leading police on chase Daniel Ruvalcaba
Daniel Ruvalcaba, 39, of Ceres, was arrested Wednesday evening, Feb. 17 after he led Ceres Police on a chase into Modesto.
At 10:53 p.m., Officer Adam Hall attempted to Ruvalcaba after observing his car being driven erratically on S. Ninth Street near Latimer Avenue, nearly causing a crash. When the officer turned on his emergency lights and siren, Ruvalcaba sped away northbound on South 7th Street from Pecos Avenue with speeds reaching 65 mph. Officer Hall followed as the pursuit made its way through three miles of mainly industrial areas of south Modesto.
