Research reveals the economic burden of colorectal cancer across Europe
New research led by Queen’s University Belfast has found that colorectal cancer costs Europe a staggering €19.1 billion (£16.3 billion) per year. This figure includes direct expenditure as well as indirect costs including premature death and sick leave.
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in Europe, with one European dying of colorectal cancer every three minutes. In the UK, over 16,000 people die of this common disease every year.
This new research demonstrates the tremendous economic burden that colorectal cancer places on health systems, patients and their families, and highlights the significant inequalities that European colorectal cancer patients experience, depending on where they live.

Calf attack leads to dog being put down
Jefferson County Commissioners vote 2-1 to euthanize young Rottweiler that attacked calf
On April 8, a 1-year-old Rottweiler attacked the neighbor s calf. Charles and Christy May, who live near Culver, own the dog named Roxie. Matt Kyle bought the calf, Bubbles, five days earlier as a gift for his daughter s birthday. A third neighbor, Raymond Henderson, saw the attack happen. I heard a commotion, said Henderson. When he arrived, Henderson said there were two dogs outside the fence, two dogs inside the fence, one dog nipping at the calf s heels, the Rottweiler holding onto the calf s ear with its teeth. I kept trying to throw logs at the dog to get it to break away.
