Grand Rapids firefighters rappel down City Hall in training exercise

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â Grand Rapids firefighters took part in a training exercise this afternoon to hone their rope rescue skills, according to the City of Grand Rapids.
Weâre told the Grand Rapids Fire Department conducted rope rescue training this past week, culminating in their final class Friday when personnel rappelled down City Hall.

The City says the class was funded in part by the Kent County Training Council.

Carry The Load will walk through Grand Rapids and surrounding areas on Wednesday as part of a 15,500-mile national relay.
The military nonprofit will walk near businesses and public areas in the greater Grand Rapids area, including Millennium Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Grand Rapids Fire Department and many other locations. A full schedule can be found below.

Carry The Load is a nonprofit that started in 2011 and was created by two Veteran U.S. Navy SEALs when they felt as though the nation had forgotten the meaning of Memorial Day. Now, 10 years later, Carry The Load will walk through all 50 states from April 29 through Memorial Day.

At 12:01 p.m., a report of a single sandal being taken at a business on 29th Street SE in Grand Rapids was reported. A female was cited for theft.
Accident:
At 12:15 p.m., a two-vehicle accident with injuries was reported on Pokegama Avenue South in Grand Rapids. One individual was cited for no valid driverâs license. No more information was available.
Stop arm violation:
At 3:49 p.m., a school bus stop arm violation was reported on Fourth Street SW in Grand Rapids. There is a suspect as the case is under investigation.
Gas driveoff:
At 4:50 p.m., a gas driveoff was reported at a business on Fourth Street NW in Grand Rapids. No more information was available.
