The police had received a report about a missing child past 7 p.m. on Apr. 19. The child s parents called for help after their daughter went missing from their home in Lafayette, Indiana for around 30 minutes, Crime Online reported. Police identified the suspect as James Brian Chadwell II, who reportedly lured the victim inside his home by offering to let her pet his dogs. Several neighbors told the police that Chadwell had commented about seeing the child after being reported missing.

Seventeen-year-old Marquis McDowell showed up at Franciscan Health Hospital just before 3 p.m. Monday with a gunshot wound to his leg, according to Lafayette police. McDowell told police he was handling a handgun and accidentally shot himself in the leg police said, indicating the accident happened at 525 S. 31st St. in Lafayette between 2:15 and 2:30 p.m. Monday. A friend at the house drove McDowell to the hospital and dropped him off, police said. Hospital staff called police.
