Two Lafayette houses hit by bullets in Monday night shootings

From Saturday through Monday, there were five shooting incidents, according to Lafayette police records. About 10:20 p.m. Monday, police received calls of a shooting on Chestnut Street. Two houses  Terry Thomas house at 60 Chestnut St. and Kenny Corbin s house at 56 Chestnut St.  were struck by bullets, police said. No one was injured. Police found shell casings in the street, according to police reports. There were no witnesses to the shootings, police said. The Chestnut Street shootings were about 35 minutes after a shooting incident at 1911 Perdue St., where someone shot at the house. No one was injured in that shooting, and there were no witnesses.

Lafayette police investigate four shooting incidents in three days

LAFAYETTE, Ind.  Lafayette police have investigated four shooting incidents in three days, but only one person was injured in what police say was an accident. Seventeen-year-old Marquis McDowell showed up at Franciscan Health Hospital just before 3 p.m. Monday with a gunshot wound to his leg, according to Lafayette police. McDowell told police he was handling a handgun and accidentally shot himself in the leg police said, indicating the accident happened at 525 S. 31st St. in Lafayette between 2:15 and 2:30 p.m. Monday. A friend at the house drove McDowell to the hospital and dropped him off, police said. Hospital staff called police.
