Turner Free Library and the Randolph Board of Health recently announced it will host a community discussion about the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color with author Dr. Michele Harper and a panel of community leaders at 6:30 p.m. March 25 via Zoom and Facebook Live.
Harper is an emergency room physician and the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir The Beauty in Breaking. The event will be moderated by Randolph Town Councilor Ken Clifton and feature Randolph Public Health Department Director Gerard Cody.
Topics of discussion will include the history of exploitation of Black Americans within the medical system and the importance of ensuring that communities of color have equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccines. COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective and the CDC recommends that everyone get vaccinated for COVID-19 as soon as they are eligible.

Massachusetts is scheduled to begin Phase 2 of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout this week. The criteria starts with individuals 75 and older, and then moves to those 65 and older and also those with two or more significant health conditions. It also will include senior housing residents, then onto people with higher risk jobs such as teachers, grocery store workers, and transportation to name a few. Lastly in this phase will be for people with one comorbidity.

The town is getting many inquiries as to how Stoughton residents can get a vaccine. Right now, Massachusetts is waiting for more vaccine from the federal government. In the next few weeks, it s expected that more vaccine doses will become available and more vaccine locations will be opening up. This will give people more options.
