Staff Writer ELKINS The Randolph County Commission voted unanimously to form a new E911 Advisory Board during its regular meeting Thursday at the James Cain Courthouse Annex. The new board will be appointed by the county and will have six members, including at least one fire service provider, one law enforcement provider, one emergency medical provider (hospital related), and one emergency services provider. The 911 director will serve as ex officio of the board. “This is something that was brought up in a recent meeting we had with members of our first responders,” said commission President Mark Scott. “It was something they wanted to see done and I think what it will do is add another layer of advisory of capacity for our system.

Earth Day celebration slated Thursday in Elkins City Park | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff Writer ELKINS Several local groups will be coming together for an Earth Day celebration Thursday at the Elkins City Park. “We have about 14 groups that are helping out with the Earth Day celebration,” Jane Birdsong, one of the organizers for the event, told the Randolph County Commission at last week’s regular meeting. “The Arts Center is setting up a sound system for us and the Elkins Parks and Recreation has donated the City Park for two hours. The Emma Scott Garden Club and the Elkins Tree Board will both have tables there with giveaways.” The festivities, which will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., are in conjunction with the annual Earth Day celebration that was first observed in 1970 and is held each year to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

Voters turn down two of three Randolph County related issues on April election ballot Moberly Monitor-Index While the two questions posed by the Moberly Public School District that appeared on the April 6 Municipal Election ballot both passed, there were three other issues listed on the Randolph County ballot and only one of them met voter approval that required a 57% passage. Voters within the Westran Fire Protection District approved its board of trustees to use general obligation bonds to pay off and purchase all of its leases in the amount of $2,860,000 without raising taxes. The district plans to refinance its current debt and anticipates a savings of about $400,000 or more.
