A tax commitment presentation was an important portion of the July 19th Rangeley Board of Selectmen’s meeting. Matt Caldwell of RJD Appraisal, the Town of Rangeley’s contracted assessing firm, provided the information.
Rangeley saw an increase in new real estate valuations of approximately four million dollars over the past year. The revenue from this additional taxable property is not sufficient to neutralize the $448,000.00 increase in Rangeley’s share of the school budget and the $220,000.00 increase in the municipal budget. The municipal budget would have risen by $175,000.00 more if the Selectmen had not voted to allocate that amount from the Chick Hill material money that the Town received during the last airport project. According to sales price data waterfront property is assessed at 84% of the selling price and non waterfront property at 94%. The current mil rate is 13.84 and will increase to 14.84 which is an increase of approximately 7 1/2

Rangeley’s Annual Town Meeting will be at the Rangeley Town Office on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. Voting by written ballot will take place between 8:00am and 8:00pm. A copy of the Annual Town report is currently available at the Town Office and should prove helpful for informed voting.
This year’s Annual Town Report is dedicated to Alice (Quimby) Smith. Alice was in attendance at the May 17, 2021 Board of Selectmen’s meeting. A Selectmen signed copy of the 2020 Town Report was presented to her in addition to the sincere “Thank You’s” for her many years of dedicated civil service to the Town of Rangeley.

Consolidated Communications delivered a broadband presentation to the Rangeley Board of Selectmen on December 7, 2020 at 5pm. Consolidated currently provides landline phone and limited internet service in the Rangeley area. Consolidated is one of the top ten fiber providers in the U.S. offering a broad range of fiber based broadband services. The Consolidated proposal would provide Fiber-To-The-Premise (FTTP) to all residences of Rangeley, Rangeley Plantation, Dallas Plantation and Sandy River Plantation. Symmetrical speeds up to 1000Mpbs (1 Gig of upload and download) would be available.
The cost to rewire the core network with new fiber lines would require the Towns to finance approximately 3.7 million dollars. This is typically done through a combination of bonds, loans and grants. These financial costs are recovered by an end user monthly infrastructure fee. This infrastructure fee is collected by Consolidated who then forwards an amount equal to the
