At The Perimeter, London, Citizens of Memory sees seven artists, including Kudzanai-Violet Hwami and Rachel Jones, explore memory, nostalgia and Black identity through painting.
The rich, lush paintings by Rachel Jones in her show at Gallery 12.26, which is titled “A Sovereign Mouth,” fairly glow with energy, providing a blast of warmth against the onset of fall’s chill.
Closely following a well-received painting show at London megagallery Thaddaeus Ropac this summer, Jones’ paintings arrive at 12.26 with a growing international reputation. “A Sovereign Mouth” should further establish this gallery, newly launched last year by sisters Hannah and Hilary Fagadau, among the leading galleries in Dallas.
Although Jones is based in London, her residency last year at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa proved to be important in developing the current direction of her work, ultimately leading to the show at 12.26.
