Flower sale ready to bloom

GROSSE POINTE WOODS Next week, local residents will plant themselves on the front lawn of the Robert E. Novitke Municipal Center for the Grosse Pointe Woods Beautification Advisory Commission’s 46th annual flower sale.
The flower sale is a city tradition. This year’s event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 7 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 8, and all are welcome. The Robert E. Novitke Municipal Center is located at 20025 Mack Ave.
Those who preordered their items by the April 21 deadline can pick them up curbside from 3 to 6 p.m. May 6 at the municipal center. The flower sale serves as the BAC’s largest fundraiser, and event proceeds support beautification programs and plantings throughout Grosse Pointe Woods.

An elderly dog went missing in the chaos of Hurricane Harvey, and after three long years, the pup named Maddie has been reunited with her family. The 16-year-old pooch returned home over the weekend thanks to the help of social media and a rescue group, KPR2 reported.
The Schnauzer and terror mix was lost in August 2017 when her owners moved to New Caney, Texas just days before Harvey struck Texas.

NEW CANEY – A family in New Caney is whole again after losing their dog days before Hurricane Harvey slammed into Houston. Maddie, a mix between a Schnauzer and a terror, is finally back home Sunday tonight thanks to a rescue group and the power of social media.
Maddie’s family never replaced her.
“In dog years, Maddie is 108. She’s loving and kind and obedient,” said owner Rachel Koster.
For the past three years, Maddie has been on a journey. She got lost after the Koster’s moved to their home in New Caney from the Woodlands.
