A WELL-known Canberra arts leader, educator and artist, Jodie Cunningham is the new CEO and artistic director of Craft ACT.
Outgoing CEO Rachael Coghlan leaves the organisation today (July 9) after five years at the helm to take up a position at Parliament House in a new role bringing together design, architecture, art and craft, was best known for spearheading the development of Design Canberra, which seeks to position Canberra as a global city of design.
Cunningham, a regular contributor to Design Canberra and one of the winners in last year’s BMW car wrap competition, was previously a long-time lecturer in visual art and design at Canberra Institute of Technology.

IN a surprise move, the CEO and artistic director of Craft ACT, Rachael Coghlan announced late yesterday (June 2) that she would leave her position for a job at Parliament House.
Coghlan, the driving force behind the DESIGN Canberra festival for the past five years, will lead cultural strategy and experience at Parliament House, a role, she said, which builds on her work at Craft ACT.
Citing the example of the late Aldo Giurgula’s “ambitious, nation-building architecture” at Parliament House, she praised the craftsmanship, material selection and a program of commissioned works of art and craft within the building.

Craft ACT, the organisation that delivers DESIGN Canberra, is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. While the 2020 edition of the event drew over 84,000 visitors, this year’s festival will present more than 200 events, exhibitions, talks, tours, activations, markets, collaborations, artists’ studios and open homes.
Craft ACT is calling for leading architecture, design and craft initiatives aligned with the ‘Transformation’ theme to participate in the annual three-week festival, which will showcase and celebrate Canberra as a global city of design and a living design laboratory.
