Mon, 05/24/2021 - 4:25pm tim Vermont Business Magazine 20 Southern Vermont Emerging Leaders were recognized on May 12th during day one of the Southern Vermont Economy Summit. Southern Vermont Young Professionals and the Shires Young Professionals sponsor the annual recognition event which celebrates young people from the Bennington and Windham regions. Individuals were nominated based on their work as community leaders and volunteers, and for their professional accomplishments and commitment to serving the region. “Even though we had to do the recognition virtually this year, we had a massive increase in nominations,” said Sarah Lang of the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation, home to SoVTYPs. “Fifty-three outstanding young leaders were identified from which the final 20 were selected.” Locally-made gifts were provided by Better Wheel Works in Newfane.

Sun, 05/23/2021 - 4:36pm tim by Olga Peters, Vermont Business Magazine Windham County Senator Becca Balint, D-Brattleboro, is watching the county’s migration patterns carefully. The Legislature is preparing to redistrict senate and house districts in response to the 2020 Census. According to Balint, it’s possible Windham County’s population has dropped enough that it risks losing representation. That loss will directly impact Windham County’s voice in Montpelier, she said. Representative Laura Sibilia, I-Dover, said Balint’s concerns are real. One of the question marks, however, is how many new Vermonters will stay in Windham County after the pandemic ends, Sibilia said. Even if the census shows a drop in population, those who moved to the state in late 2020 could tip the scales.

Just something about the state gives off a calm vibe while at the same time melting away worries and stress. It s a welcoming change from the daily grind. I have spent many times in the Green Mountain State as I have friends that live in Readsboro and West Dover. In 2008 after my wife and I were married, we spent our honeymoon in Burlington. We had a blast as we stayed at the Hilton overlooking Lake Champlain. I recommend Lake Champlain Chocolates for those who need to satisfy a sweet tooth. We also visited the aquarium and took tours of the Cabot Cheese Factory as well as the Ben & Jerry s factory. Cruising on the lake was also a highlight of our honeymoon.
