Prior to hn 1n 1, swine flu, mexico was the hotspot. Its clear from looking at it logically, you cant prioritize where to work. Its what you do there that matters. Our responses are always after the fact. Its not Good Public Health. We did Good Public Health on smoking, diabetes, we do lousy Public Health on pandemics. We need prevention, not cure. So great example, weve had the worst african ebola, 5. 1 billion was used to back fund a lot of the operations that happened during the outbreak. Where is the money to move forward . Theres a Global Health security agenda. We need the funds to be allocated to the places where theres the next outbreak, not the last outbreak. We know where they are, we know how many they are and we know how to go about identifying them. I think its good common sense, Public Health to get out there and do this proactively. Prioritization, you go back to which wildlife species are the viruses found in, are there already ongoing outbreaks of undiagnosed illnesses
I would say the general mood is not optimistic for major legislation. Will republicans be able to hold firm in the senate on the confirmation process . It sure seems like the Senate Republicans are not planning on changing their tune anytime soon. Every time that the white house goes out of its way to pretend that there is some sort of changing of the tide you immediately hear from senator mcconnell and judiciary chairman Chuck Grassley saying exactly the opposite.
