Pueblo West Metro District approves memorandum of understanding for Bird Scooters

The Pueblo West Metro District approved a memorandum of understanding which could move Bird Scooters into the community in a 3-1 decision Monday night. Public Works Director, Christian Heyn, stood before the board once again to present the opportunity for the scooters to take flight in the community, noting two of the talking points the board discussed in a previous meeting. “There were two concerns,” Heyn said. “One of them being, would (the scooters) be allowed on the trails, and the other was where would they essentially do business?” Heyn noted that based off the district’s research, the scooters would not be allowed on the bike trails in Pueblo West.

Pueblo West Metro District discusses master plan of airport property

In Monday’s Pueblo West Metro District board meeting, Economic Development Specialist Tyler Purvis, came before the board to discuss an airport property master plan and easement. Known as the former airport property that lays on McCulloch and Purcell Boulevards, Purvis said in a previous executive session the board had discussed the future of the property. There was discussion in the executive session about whether to approve an easement of the property going from an overhead line, down to Parkview Medical Center to give them redundancy in their electricity, Purvis said. “The board elected to move forward in those discussions,” Purvis added. “So, we have notified them of that, and they are going to be putting together the legal descriptions so we can properly get that done.”

Pueblo West fire chief argues for rollover money for station 1 at metro board meeting

In the fourth Pueblo West Metro District board meeting of the year, the board voted unanimously on three important action items that will benefit the community. Pueblo West Fire Chief Brian Caserta asked the board to repurpose an allocated amount of $90,000 designated for design work for Fire Station 2 to be used in conjunction with the rollover amount of $133,244 for a combined amount of $223,244 for upgrades to the living quarters at Fire Station 1. Caserta added that small improvements have been made, but none that capture the true intent of what needs to be done at the fire station. “What we ended up doing was turning a space that was one big open room that was a storage room for fire hose and things like that and converted it into a bedroom living space for the first three fulltime firefighters that we had living at the station for 24 hours at a time,” Caserta said.
