HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - It has been 10 months since a protest against police brutality in downtown Huntsville ended in tear gas and rubber bullets.
April 22 at 5:30 p.m. the Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Council will be releasing its findings and recommendations for the police department.
We’re told there will be time for public comment.
“I read somewhere that you can get a leaf blower and blow the pepper spray gas back at them. You see the conversation, they’re having a conversation about how to defeat police officers,” Chief Mark McMurray said in June of 2020.

Local leaders react to Derek Chauvin verdict By Caroline Klapp | April 20, 2021 at 10:19 PM CDT - Updated April 20 at 10:55 PM
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - The guilty verdict against Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd is bringing out strong reactions nationwide, and right here in the Tennessee Valley.
It took around 10 hours of deliberation to reach a guilty verdict.
”If I’m being completely honest, I didn’t think he would get convicted,” Remus Bowden, a community activist said.
“When you start treating a person less like a human being, treating them like a dog or something like that, that’s when you cross a line. They heard and saw the same thing. He murdered George Floyd,” NAACP President for Alabama, Benard Simelton said.
