paused all team activities earlier this winter due to an undisclosed number of positive COVID-19 tests among “Tier 1” personnel, which includes student-athletes, coaches, trainers, and some staff members.
Penn State hasn’t yet played a match this season. Its season-opening series with Michigan was also
postponed. Both sides haven’t yet rescheduled the two matches, likely due to the Wolverines’
Penn State will open its season when it hosts Illinois on Friday, February 5. First serve is set for 9 p.m. on the Big Ten Network. The series’ second match will get started at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 6.
Between January 23 and 29, the department administered 2,208 tests, resulting in 33 new positive tests.
Wednesday’s reported figures bring Athletics’ cumulative positive tests to 302 since testing began over the summer. Penn State has performed 28,424 tests since student-athletes returned to campus.
Penn State women’s volleyball is the only team
currently on pause due to COVID-19-related concerns. An undisclosed number of “Tier 1” personnel, including student-athletes, coaches, and trainers, have tested positive over the past two weeks.
Although the team hasn’t announced it’s resumed practicing just yet, women’s volleyball is still slated to face Illinois at Rec Hall on Friday, February 5.
The Bryce Jordan Center first opened its door on January 6, 1996, making this year the 25th year in the arena’s storied history. The 16,000-seat multi-purpose arena has become a staple of Penn State, as it sits right in the shadow of Beaver Stadium.
The arena was named after the university’s 14th president, Bryce Jordan, who served from 1983 to 1990 and helped secure the funding to build the BJC. He was also instrumental in Penn State’s introduction into the Big Ten toward the end of his tenure.
