HUBBARDSTON Hundreds of volunteers are expected to take part in the 3rd annual Keep Hubbardston Beautiful event on Saturday, April 17. Participants in the town-wide cleanup will remove plastic bags from trees, pick up litter from trails and clean the community of any roadside trash.
Keep Hubbardston Beautiful volunteers organize the annual event on the third Saturday in April every year. Last year’s event was canceled because of COVID-19 concerns, organizers said.
Volunteers from the KBH committee will be at Curtis Recreation Field from 8 a.m. until noon to welcome people who’ve picked up trash and direct them toward a big red dumpster. All participants will receive a gift of a fresh sapling in honor of Earth Day, courtesy of RS Clapham Tree Service.

Despite reaching more than 3,000 signatures, a petition crafted by junior journalism student Jakob Janoski in hopes of reopening the Rec Center for student use has yet to result in any change from WVU.
The petition was released last month on change.org and caught the attention of the WVU administration. However, despite the petition s recognition, there has been little progress overall.
According to Janoski, there was no new information given out during the Campus Conversation last month.
âThey held firm that the Student Rec Center will be staying closed, Janoski said. I do believe that this petition has politely put the University into a position in which they have to respond to the people who signed the petition, which is a good thing.â
