Mayor Byron Brown said the event offers a safe way for everyone to gather and to support the youth of Buffalo.
“This year’s virtual ball drop is a benefit for the Police Athletic League of Buffalo. And the need is great,” Brown said. “During our virtual New Year’s Eve celebration, you’ll get to meet some of our youth who participate in PAL programming. These are important programs and serve as a lifeline for many of our children.”
Marc Jaromin, WKBW-TV general manager, said the virtual event will still be a New Year’s to remember, featuring musical performances and celebrity appearances.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â 7ABC is proud to announce it will once again help your family count down to 2021, broadcasting the Buffalo Ball Drop live from Roosevelt Plaza in Downtown Buffalo on New Year s Eve.
Due to social distancing measures, the ball drop is being held virtually this year meaning people will not be able to watch it in-person in Downtown Buffalo. Instead, 7ABC is planning an evening of positive stories, local music performances, and more leading up to our live broadcast of the ball drop.
