Lulay of Spring Creek, Nevada was caught and buried by an avalanche on Saturday in Eastern Nevada. He and two other snowmobilers were riding near Castle Lake, in high-elevation and steep terrain within the Ruby Mountains, according to the Elko County Sheriff’s Office. One snowmobiler made it out to call for help, another had to be airlifted to a hospital in Salt Lake City with injuries and Lulay did not survive.

Three Snowmobilers Caught in Avalanche Near Elko, One Killed ELKO, Nevada (KLIX)-One man was killed and another injured when they were caught in an avalanche Saturday south of Elko, Nevada. According to the Elko County Sheriff s Office, Lamoille Canyon had to be shut down Sunday morning following the avalanche that caught three snowmobilers near Castle Lake a little before noon on Saturday. One of the snowmobilers was able to ride out of the avalanche area and call for help while one man sustained serious injuries and the third killed. Recovery efforts had to be called off late Saturday as cloud cover, low visibility and unstable snow conditions made it difficult.

Authorities said three young men from the Elko area were snowmobiling near Castle Lake high in the mountains above Lamoille Canyon when the avalanche occurred shortly before noon Saturday. County Undersheriff Justin Ames said one of the men was able to make it down and call for help.
