Feb 26, 2021 ELKO, Nev. (AP) The Elko County Sheriff’s Office has identified the snowmobiler who was killed in an avalanche in the Ruby Mountains over the weekend as a 19-year-old Spring Creek man. Ethan Lulay’s body was recovered Sunday after a brief closure of Lamoille Canyon southeast of Elko, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday. He had been snowmobiling with two other men Saturday morning near Castle Lake in the mountains above the canyon in the Ruby Mountain Wilderness Area when the avalanche occurred. One suffered a broken leg and clavicle and was flown to a Salt Lake City hospital for treatment.

He and two other snowmobilers were riding near Castle Lake, in high-elevation and steep terrain within the Ruby Mountains, according to the Elko County Sheriff’s Office. One snowmobiler made it out to call for help, another had to be airlifted to a hospital in Salt Lake City with injuries and Lulay did not survive.
