Most private hospitals that were part of the dry run are ready to administer vaccines to the first line of priority groups - the health care workers, frontline workers and the 27 crore elderly population. In Delhi, there are 89 vaccination centres or points where vaccination will take place.
Private hospitals in the state can vaccinate their doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers on their campus using their own manpower, the Bengal government conveyed to the heads of private hospitals at a meeting on Saturday.
The state health department will begin training vaccinators in private hospitals to administer the Covid-19 vaccine from next week. The department will also be choosing the private hospitals that can be made vaccination sites for their staff.
The decisions were communicated to the private hospitals by the secretary of the state government’s health department at the meeting called to discuss the implementation of the Swasthya Sathi scheme, a cashless health insurance project of the state government.

Kolkata: Covid beds at private hospitals that were taken up by the West Bengal government since March will be released after there is a fall in the number of Covid cases in the state.
According to sources of the
Times of India, more general beds would be released than ICU beds. The infection rate in West Bengal has been falling since September and the number of people requiring hospitalisation has come down.

Many Covid patients are being admitted to the intensive care unit or kept there for a prolonged period even if they do not need critical care support, state government officials involved in tackling the pandemic and insurance companies have alleged.
Most private hospitals have increased the number of ICU beds for Covid19 patients and many have realised that the demand might not be as much as they had anticipated.
Some of the insurance companies said they were regularly seeking justifications for decisions to keep stable Covid patients in ICUs. Insurance firms said they often refrained from deducting from reimbursements because doctors said they felt the patient needed ICU care.
